Behind-the-ear (BTE/RIC) — generally more powerful and flexible
- Pro: Wider power range; adaptable to different levels of loss.
- Pro: Controls can be easier to operate; practical for daily use.
- Pro: Better ventilation; easier receiver/dome/tube replacement.
- Con: Body is visible behind the ear; may contact glasses/masks.
In-the-ear (ITE/ITC/CIC/IIC) — more compact and “discreet” options
- Pro: Less visible; preferred when aesthetics are a priority.
- Pro: Microphones sit closer to the natural ear position, which can support
more natural directionality in some cases.
- Con: More exposed to earwax/moisture; filter/cleaning needs may increase.
- Con: Power options can be limited for very advanced losses (model-dependent).
Note: The best choice is determined with audiological testing
plus ear canal anatomy and your daily listening needs.
